| After the eruption of December 2005/January 2006, the sismicity was weak until following April. The first signs of activity of La Fournaise appeared mid-April with a slight increase of daily seisms and the summit swelling.
End of June, the volcanologic Observatory monthly news announced a 3 centimeters swelling of the summits and recorded up to 60 seisms per day. On July 20th, an intense earthquake starts a little after 2:00am and a first opening erupts 2 hours later located southwest of the Dolomieu crater, above the Rivals crater. |

| Slightly before 6:00am a second break opens between the Chateau Fort and Rivals craters. The first break will cease all activity in the afternoon. The second opening will erupt the following 26 days, spreading light lava flows and building an almost perfect cone that will be named "Piton de la Paix" (the pit of Peace).
Piton de la Paix will stop its activity on August 14th. It emitted a low amount of lava due to the pre-eruptive swelling (about 2 to 3 millions cubic meters) |

Le Piton de la Fournaise de l'île de la Réunion est un volcan rouge ainsi que les volcans d'Hawaii . Ses éruptions ont lieu environ tous les ans.
